About Assagao:

Assagao is a village in Bardez, North Goa and is located in the Crossandra valley or Valley of Flowers about 4 kilometres west of Mapusa and 10 minutes drive to Anjuna and vagator.

Assagao is one of Goa’s few designated Heritage Villages which means that unlike many other places in Goa it is not dominated by blocks of flats, but by either painstakingly restored old ancestral houses or sensitively newly built houses.
This is a village where people live, villagers who have lived here all their life and maintain their traditions of farming or feni making (local cashew brew). However, over the past few years Assagao has quietly become a fashionable residential area of Goa with Bollywood stars, artists and wealthy Indian business people choosing to have their holiday homes here.

This influx of newcomers has attracted others to set up business here and there is now a scattering of speciality cafes and restaurants, yoga and rejuvenation centres.

Examples are :

“Villa Blanche” bistro which serves fresh delicious European and Mediterreanean food; “Gunpowder” specialising in home style South Indian and “Ciao Bella” which offers simple, authentic italian food in true traditional south italian style and preparation. You can rejuvenate at Watsu Goa (water therapy & healing), sign up for Yoga at the Purple Valley Yoga Retreat or relax and detox at the Ayurma Ayurvedic and Healing Centre in Assagao. Or if shopping is more your style, buy local crafts, handmade clothing and jewelry at the “Cheshire Cat” Gallery and visit “Indian Story” which specialises in contemporary Indian made clothing and accessories for women and men.
