The History of Lazydays

The Directors, Sue Watkins and Linda Guthrie were both career civil servants in the UK until Goa changed their lives. In 1994 after several holidays in Goa they were told by colleagues to 'stop talking about it, go and do it'. They both now split their time between Goa and the UK wintering in Goa and welcoming guests and returning to the UK each summer to avoid the monsoon rains. John Bishop our UK resident Sales Manager, joined the company in 1999 after many years in the hospitality industry running his own successful Country House Hotel and Restaurant in North Devon.

Welcome to Lazydays in Goa

"One dark December evening back in 1991 we were flicking through holiday brochures dreaming of sunshine and perhaps an affordable two week escape from reality. We were not disappointed with our choice, we found an idyllic, lazy, sunny paradise full of natural beauty and tranquility. We came on holiday and fell in love with Goa but unlike so many holiday romances ours has continued and we are lucky now to be able to call Goa our home.

When we talked about starting a holiday business we had our ideal customer in mind - us. We wanted to offer visitors to this tiny tropical Indian State something different - the opportunity to experience 'our' Goa, the one that exists outside the hotels and resorts a life worlds away from the one they left at home - slow, harmonious, relaxed and relaxing.

Goa is the ideal choice when planning to escape part of the harsh Northern winter as between October and April there is unbroken sunshine and the temperature rarely falls below 90c. The pace of life is relaxed and the cost of living extremely low, the people friendly, charming and fun loving and where else can you spend your evenings enjoying a walk along the beach at sunset or strolling through one of the many street markets in safety?

Goans have for many years been welcoming visitors to their shores accommodating tourists mainly in hotels and guesthouses. Villa holidays were a new concept when we introduced them in 1995 for the first time. Since that time we have worked hard with local owners to bring you a selection of unique holiday homes. Our emphasis is on quality accommodation, comfortable and full of character ranging from traditional cottages to highly individual villas and apartments each with its own charm and appeal.

Please do not be fooled though, our accommodation is not the cheapest you will find in Goa. There are many houses and apartments that can be rented locally, as in any holiday destination, and most families will offer rooms for rent. We only know of the effort, by ourselves and our owners, that has been put in to achieve the standard of maintenance and comfort that you deserve and expect from the accommodation that we proudly feature on this web site.

As we live here now we have a lot of local knowledge and along with our friendly team of staff we are available to offer as much advice and information as you need. We will understand if you want to do your own thing, but if you need us we are happy to be of help.

We do hope that you find your ideal holiday home amongst our pages and that we will meet you soon here in Goa".
Happy Holidays
Sue & Linda

About the Company

COMPANY INFORMATION

Lazydays in Goa Ltd is a specialist holiday company offering short -term rentals of high quality villas and apartments in Goa.

1995
The business was set up in 1995 by Linda Guthrie and Sue Watkins to offer an alternative to the standard hotel and guest-house holiday available in Goa coupled with quality, sustainable, low impact tourism.

1996-2004
Lazydays in Goa became a limited company in 1996, received approval, the following year, for full merchanting facilities and is able to accept payments made with all major credit cards. In 1999 the company launched its own website and has developed a Privacy Statement to protect customers' personal details.

Over the last ten seasons the company has gradually grown from handling only three houses to having a portfolio of 40 properties and a full-time sales office in Bournemouth, England and a local office in Goa. Hundreds of visitors to Goa have stayed with Lazydays since 1995 and the company has built up a large base of regular clients.

Through the business partnerships developed over the years the company can advise on flights and Birdwatching trips.

The team in Goa has grown along with the company and now consists of a housekeeper, maids, laundry staff, an electrician, a plumber and gardener plus a core of taxi drivers. What is unusual for Goa, is that the staff stay loyal to Lazydays. This has meant the company has been able to build a team of trustworthy, well-trained people who work to the highest standards and most importantly offer a professional and efficient service to guests.

The Directors are resident in Goa and manage all the properties. They personally visit and select new ones, all of which have to be of a minimum standard in furnishing, décor, facilities and ambience. Guests expect a high standard of accommodation and Linda and Sue work hard to achieve this - more properties are rejected than make the grade. Based on their personal knowledge, the directors have written a Lazydays Holiday Guide and Property Handbook for each villa and apartment which is an invaluable information "starter pack" to Goa.

Lazydays is a small company offering guests a very personalised service before and during their holiday. Linda and Sue believe that the only way they can continue to achieve this is by keeping the company small, continuing to have detailed knowledge of all the properties and the locations and regularly reviewing company performance and customer satisfaction.
